Nathan McCarty

Co Founder

Nathan McCarty is both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an AAMFT approved supervisor. He has practiced in many settings, including private practices, universities, intensive in-home care, and outpatient care. EFT and EMDR training is part of Nathan's training.

Nathan provides clinical supervision for those seeking licensure in the state of Iowa, particularly focused on working with couples and marriages.

It can be difficult and sometimes unmanageable to cope with hopelessness, anxiety, and other stressors in daily life. I work with individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families to cope with, understand, and overcome these stressors. The goal of my work is to establish trust and working relationships to educate about the impact on mental health, how to manage stressors, and how to identify preventative techniques for addressing those issues.

Therapist

Each person has a unique story to tell. The reason I chose to become a counselor is to help people tell their stories the way they see fit. To help individuals overcome obstacles that are currently standing between them and their ideal way of life, I utilize clinically proven and evidence-based techniques as well as my own unique skills and thinking patterns. In order for me to help an individual achieve a happy, healthy life, I think getting to know them is essential.

Anne Miller

Therapist

I provide psychotherapy services to individuals with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder who are seeking additional skills to manage their symptoms. My approach is integrative, primarily utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Through EMDR, anxiety, depression, and traumatic events are addressed using the brain's natural problem-solving mechanisms. Our first step will be to develop skills for regulating emotions and coping with distress before processing negative or traumatic experiences.

Through a collaborative relationship, we will empower your personal growth in a way that feels right to you. I look forward to supporting you on your mental wellness journey. In the event that we are not a perfect match, I will assist you in finding a professional who can help you reach your objectives. Your well-being is always my first priority.

You are welcome here. I work with ages 3 years old to late adulthood. I happily welcome the LGBTQA+ community. I use a warm, person-centered approach to provide you an open, safe space for sharing at your pace. I also integrate direct and exploratory therapy types to best fit your mental health goals and needs; although I do integrate both, I lean more on the exploratory therapy type side. My genuine purpose as a therapist is to provide you a collaborative experience and be your mutual advocate; so, you can be in the driver’s seat of your own life journey.
For teenagers and adults, I work in a mainly individual setting. For children, I often use play therapy techniques because little ones truly thrive through play. I routinely incorporate you, the caregivers in a portion of the session structure because your input is valuable to me.
You’ve already taken a big step towards personal healing by researching therapist options. 🙂 The best way to reach out to me is through the "email" option on this profile. -Fun fact about me: I enjoy singing lessons, and cuddling with my two cats.

Before you read anything else, I want you to know three things: You have worth and infinite value, there is always a reason to have hope, and while you may feel alone on your life story, you do not have to figure everything out on your own. That said, if you are looking for support, I hope you consider meeting with me. I utilize and provide practical, applicable, and evidence-based approaches throughout treatment, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), while also utilizing a blend of trauma informed care, psychoeducation and bibliotherapy.

I am willing, per client’s choice, to incorporate into that treatment the lens of Christian faith. I strive to never allow concepts of faith to overshadow the reality of mental health challenges, nor have the reality of mental health challenges eclipse the hope that can be found through faith.

I work with teenagers, adults, older adults, couples, and families. I enjoy working in the areas of aging, anxiety, OCD, trauma, ADHD, grief, life changes, and anger issues. I also enjoy helping those who are: adult children of parents with mental illness, and survivors of abuse. Lastly, I enjoy providing a safe judgement-free space and helping those battling various addictions, such as drugs alcohol, food, technology, video games, and pornography.

Whether it be poor body image, fear of the future, struggles with relationships, peers, family members, food, low self-esteem, or even thoughts of ending it all, I provide hope in giving tomorrow the chance it deserves.

Eating and mood disorders, self-esteem, life transitions, and peer and/or family relationships are areas I have more expertise in. I apply Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while incorporating some Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques under the eyes of a Person-Centered approach. We will focus on the thought patterns that contribute to your emotion and experience while learning to apply mindfulness and grace to yourself all while you are the expert in the session.

Not only do I offer a safe and supportive space for you to be vulnerable in, but I also offer a space for you to come as you are meaning WE will take the therapeutic process at YOUR own pace. I believe YOU are the expects of your own life while I am here just to guide you along the way by challenging you to see the situation from a new angle.

Trauma comes in many forms. Whether it's the death of a loved one, abuse & violence, DHS involvement, a bad breakup, chronic illness, criminal justice involvement, chemical dependency, or loss of parental rights; experiencing trauma can feel very isolating. You might find yourself feeling detached from others or having difficulty developing authentic connections with people. Maybe you feel lost and uncertain about how to carry on. Or maybe you're finding yourself lashing out at others with little or no reason. Somedays it can feel like nobody understands your pain or how broken you feel.

Depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, explosive anger, relationship problems, and addiction are the natural consequences of trauma. You don't deserve to feel like this. Help and support is available whenever you are ready.

I believe it is a privilege and an honor to accompany those I work with along their journey to their most authentic and true self. I find myself in constant awe of the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of family, including chosen family. I strive to empower those I serve to find and develop their strengths in order to make themselves whole again.

I provide a very straight-forward and direct solution focused approach for addressing barriers of life. I understand that sometimes we all can use a safe space to process situations that come along with being human in a sometimes less than humane world. I provide guidance through instructing the use of various breathing exercises, grounding, stabilization, and relaxation techniques to provide clients with tools for minimizing stress responses.
I am a licensed therapist, certified trauma professional, and Veteran, who utilizes an integrated approach of several evidence-based body therapy techniques including, but not limited to somatic experiencing and bi-lateral therapies. I specialize in teaching tools for reducing negative symptoms of trauma as well as depression and anxiety disorders.
Unprocessed memories may trigger body sensations that dictate how you respond to your world. If these responses to triggers are presenting problems in your life, there is hope in minimizing those stored negative body sensations that are presenting a problem.
